What should you discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Celexa?

If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) during the last 2 weeks then you can not take Celexa. If Celexa is combined with any of these medications, a dangerous drug interaction can occur.
Tell/Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, Kidney disease, suffering from seizures, or suffering from mania or have suicidal thoughts, before taking Celexa. If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able to take Celexa, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment.

During the treatment Celexa should not be taken with esCelexa (Lexapro). You may also have an allergic reaction to Celexa, if you have had an allergic reaction to esCelexa (Lexapro). Without consulting with your doctor do not take Celexa if you have had an allergic reaction to either medication in the past.
It is recommended not to take Celexa without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Celexa is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby.
Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Celexa if you are breast-feeding a baby. This is because it is known that Celexa passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant.

Celexa is used to treat depression; this medicine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It can also be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor.
