Does Prevacid work on ulcers?
Gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), duodenal ulcers (ulcers
in the first part of the small intestine), and even stomach ulcers caused
by the continuous use of certain pain medications called NSAIDs (nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen) can be
cured with the help of Prevacid.The risk of duodenal ulcers from returning
by eliminating Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) — the bacteria believed
to cause approximately 90% of duodenal ulcers can be reduced by using Prevacid
which is a multiple-drug treatment.
How long should you take Prevacid?
How long you take Prevacid will depend for what purpose or for which treatment
you are taking it and how it responds you. Only your doctor can tell you
about how long you should take this medicine. Not only Prevacid relieves
the heartburn symptoms associated with acid reflux disease, but it also
can help you in curing damage to the esophagus. Even, it has also been noticed
that if Prevacid is taken continuously it not only helps in curing but also
stop the damage from coming back. So it is recommended that complete your
medication and take the regular doses even if you don’t feel the symptoms.
Prevacid is a proton pump
inhibitor (PPI) used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), heartburn,
erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevacid may also be
used to treat ulcers due to long-term use of certain pain/anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs). This medicine works by blocking acid production in the stomach.
It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin)
to treat certain types of ulcers. It may also be used to treat other conditions
as determined by your doctor. |
