What should you discuss with your healthcare provider before taking Celebrex?

It is recommended that before using Celebrex tell your doctor if you have—
- liver disease,
- fluid retention,
- drink alcohol,
- kidney disease, or
- asthma,
- congestive heart failure,
- high blood pressure,
- heart disease,
- an ulcer or bleeding in the stomach,
- are taking a steroid medicine such as prednisone (Deltasone and others), methylprednisolone (Medrol and others), prednisolone (Prelone, Pediapred, and others), and others
- a coagulation (bleeding) disorder or are taking an anticoagulant (blood thinner) such as warfarin (Coumadin), or
- smoke

If you have any of the conditions listed above then you may not be able to take Celebrex, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment

It is recommended not to take Celebrex without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Celebrex is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is unknown that whether it will harm an unborn baby. It may affect the formation of the baby's heart so Celebrex should not be taken late in pregnancy (the third trimester).

Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Celebrex if you are breast-feeding a baby. This is because it is not known that Celebrex passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant

You may be more likely to experience side effects from Celebrex, if you are over 65 years of age. If you are of old age then you may require a less dose of this medication

This medicine should not be used by children younger than 18 years of age as Celebrex is not approved by the FDA for use by children

Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Celebrex or affect your condition.



Celebrex is used to relieve pain and swelling (inflammation); this medicine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) known as a COX-2 inhibitor. Treatment of arthritis, acute pain, and menstrual pain and discomfort are done by using Celebrex. It can also be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor.
