What should you watch for while taking Celebrex?

If your pain continues, inform your doctor immediately do not take any pain-killers on your own without taking advice of your doctor. Call your doctor if you get flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, muscle aches and pains), do not take any medicine on your own.

Take Celebrex with a full glass of water, to reduce unpleasant effects on your stomach. Inform your doctor immediately, if you notice black, tarry stools or experience severe stomach pain and vomit blood or what looks like coffee grounds

.It is recommended that for the prevention of heart attack or stroke, do not take Celebrex instead of Aspirin. Before taking Celebrex consult with your doctor if you are taking medicines that affect the clotting of your blood, such as aspirin or blood thinners such as Coumadin. Take the aspirin regularly if you are taking it for this purpose. Do not stop taking it without consulting with your doctor.

You can have increased risk of having side effects from Celebrex if you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. These increase irritation to your stomach and can make it more at risk to damage from Celebrex.

While taking Celebrex, do not take other prescription or over-the-counter non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSIADs), such as ibuprofen (Advil®), naprosyn (Aleve®), or ketoprofen (Orudis® KT). Stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, vomiting or serious side effects such as ulcers are the side effects that can be caused if Celebrex is taken with other NSAIDs. Before taking any medicine along with Celebrex, carefully read the label and check it that whether it contains NSAIDs. If it contains you should not take it along with Celebrex.


Celebrex is used to relieve pain and swelling (inflammation); this medicine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) known as a COX-2 inhibitor. Treatment of arthritis, acute pain, and menstrual pain and discomfort are done by using Celebrex. It can also be used in other circumstances for treatment, as if determined by your doctor.
