What should you discuss with your
healthcare provider before taking Prevacid?
It is recommended that before using Prevacid tell your doctor if you have
liver disease.
If you have any of the conditions of liver disease then
you may not be able to take Prevacid, or you may need a dosage adjustment
or special monitoring during treatment
The 15 mg and 30 mg Prevacid SoluTabs contain 2.5 mg and 5.1 mg phenylalanine
respectively per tablet. Individuals with phenylketonuria may need to monitor
their intake of this additive.
It is recommended not to take Prevacid without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Prevacid
is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm
an unborn baby.
Without consulting to your doctor, do not take Prevacid if you are breast-feeding
a baby. This is because it is unknown that Prevacid passes into breast milk
and may affect a nursing infant.
Consult with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Prevacid is
a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux
(GERD), heartburn, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevacid
may also be used to treat ulcers due to long-term use of certain pain/anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs). This medicine works by blocking acid production in the stomach.
It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin)
to treat certain types of ulcers. It may also be used to treat other conditions
as determined by your doctor. |
