CETIRIZINE (se-TI-ra-zeen) is the chemical name for zyrtec
Two strengths are available for ‘Zyrtec’ Tablets:
5mg and 10mg oral tablets. .
Zyrtec Common Uses
Zyrtec is used to treat both seasonal and perennial allergy
symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose (rhinitis), itching
eyes, and sneezing; this medicine is an antihistamine. Zyrtec
can also be used treat hives.
Before Using Zyrtec
There are chances that any other medicines or medical conditions
may interact with this medicine therefore all prescription and
over-the-counter medicine that you are taking should be known
by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are taking other medicines
that cause drowsiness such as medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives),
tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medicines (e.g., diazepam), narcotic
pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g.,
phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as
amitriptyline), anti-seizure medicines (e.g., carbamazepine),
muscle relaxants, or other antihistamines that cause drowsiness
(e.g., diphenhydramine) than additional observation should be
required of your dose or condition. Without consulting doctor
do not start or stop taking the medicine. If you have any other
medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding
than immediately inform your doctor. If you have an allergy
to the medicine hydroxyzine, it is recommended not to take Zyrtec.
If you have a history of kidney disease, or liver disease, additional
monitoring of your dose may be needed. If you have any further
queries regarding the medicine than contact your doctor.
Storage
Zyrtec should be stored at room temperature between 15-30 degrees
C in a tightly-sealed container and in a dry place and away
from heat and direct light. Storage between 59 and 86 degrees
F (15 and 30 degrees C) is allowed.
