LANSOPRAZOLE (lan-SOE-pra-zole) is the chemical
name for Prevacid.

Uses
This medicine is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD),
erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole
may also be used to treat ulcers due to long-term use
of certain pain/anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This
medicine works by blocking acid production in the stomach.
It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g.,
amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat certain types of
ulcers. It may also be used to treat other conditions
as determined by your doctor.
Before Using Prevacid
There are chances that any other medicines or medical
conditions may interact with this medicine therefore all
prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are
taking should be known by your doctor or pharmacist. If
you are using HIV protease inhibitors, it is recommended
not to take this medicine. If you are taking ampicillin,
digoxin, iron, itraconazole, ketoconazole, sucralfate,
vitamins with iron, vorconizole, or "blood thinners"
such as warfarin than additional observation should be
required of your dose or condition. Without consulting
doctor do not start or stop taking the medicine. If you
have any other medical conditions, including liver disease,
other stomach problems (such as tumors), allergies, pregnancy,
or breast-feeding than immediately inform your doctor
and if you have any further queries regarding the medicine
than contact your doctor.
Storage
Prevacid should be stored at room temperature between
15-30°C (59-86°F) in a tightly-sealed container
and in a dry place and away from heat and direct light.
