NovoLog Insulin - NovoRapid Information:

Novolog Insulin (generic name: Insulin Aspart, also known as: NovoRapid) is an FDA approved drug which is prescribed for the treatment of diabetes. In patients with diabetes, the liver does not produce enough insulin, and therefore synthetic insulins are prescribed to regulate blood sugar levels and prevent a spiking in blood sugar. Novolog is a rapid acting insulin, meaning that it releases for short periods and begins acting very quickly. It is therefore usually mixed with long acting insulins for longer lasting effect.

NovoLog Insulin - NovoRapid Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects. The most common side effect of Novolin is hypoglycemia, when too much insulin is administered and this may cause shaking, increase or change in heartbeat, and changes in vision including blurry vision. Severe hypoglycemia can be fatal, or can cause damage to the brain. This can cause seizures (or fits) and possibly unconsciousness. Other side effects include a rash or changes in the skin where the insulin has been injected. If you experience any side effects you must consult a doctor immediately. It is also possible to suffer an allergic reaction to Novolog Insulin, and as with any other side effect immediate medical attention should be sought.

NovoLog Insulin - NovoRapid Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Novolog insulin to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Novolog insulin comes in vials, and is in liquid form. It is injected directly into the skin in the arms, waist, legs and stomach but should not be injected into the veins. The injection site should be changed daily to avoid irritation, rashes and changes to the skin. Novolog Insulin is a rapid-acting insulin and is therefore required to be administered several times daily.

NovoLog Insulin - NovoRapid Precautions:

NovoLog NovoRapid vials should be stored under the room temperature up to 28 days after opening when it is stored or refrigerated. You must not take Novolog Insulin if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, and should consult your doctor. You must also inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or if you are taking any other medications, as other medicines may interact with Novolog Insulin. Some medicines affect glucose metabolism, and so you may be required to adjust the dose of insulin, although this should only be done by consulting with a doctor as adjusting insulin levels without medical knowledge can be dangerous. These medicines which affect glucose metabolism include oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, fluoxetine, disopyramide, salicylates, fibrates, MAO inhibitors, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene and some antibiotics. You must take care not to inject too much insulin, and must ensure that the injection is administered at the same time daily. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Novolog Insulin may cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
