Avandamet Information:

Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) is the first and only TZD (thiazolidinedione) combination pill that directly targets an underlying cause of type 2 diabetes - called insulin resistance - while also reducing the amount of sugar produced by your liver.

Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) is a medicine used, along with diet and exercise, to treat type 2 ("adult onset") diabetes ("high sugar"). (rosiglitazone/metformin) is also called non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) combines with metformin, which lowers the amount of sugar produced by your liver; and rosiglitazone, which directly targets insulin resistance, a major underlying cause of type 2 diabetes. In combination, Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) and metformin significantly lower blood sugar more effectively than the #1 prescribed medication for type 2 diabetes (metformin), taken alone.

Avandamet Side Effects:

Avandamet side effects, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, or metallic taste. Other Avandamet side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include headache, back pain, joint pain, weight gain, cough or fever. If Avandamet side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If stomach symptoms recur later (after you are on the same dose for several days or more), tell your doctor immediately. A late recurrence of stomach symptoms may be due to lactic acidosis (see Before Using This Medicine section). CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience Avandamet side effects like swelling of the hands or feet (edema); unusual tiredness or weakness; sudden weight gain; trouble breathing; vomiting; stomach pain; yellowing eyes or skin; or dark urine. Avandamet side effects are unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if Avandamet side effects occur. Symptoms of Avandamet side effects include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
