It is also prescribed for other conditions which involve high levels of stomach acid including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Aciphex is a proton pump inhibitor and works by helping to heal damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid, as well a decreasing aid in the stomach, and reducing the symptoms of heartburn and other acid reflux diseases. It is also sometimes prescribed in conjunction with other antibacterial drugs as an antibiotic to help prevent gastric ulcers caused by helicobacter pylori.
