Arimidex Information:

Arimidex (generic name: Anastrozole) is a chemo drug which is prescribed for the treatment of breast cancer in women who are post-menopausal. It is a hormone treatment and belongs to the group of drugs called non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors. It is a first line chemotherapy drug and is used in patients with advanced breast cancer. Breast tumors generally need estrogen to grow in the body, and Arimidex works by lowering estrogen levels to prevent the growth of the cancerous cells in the breasts. It is commonly prescribed to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and have not had any effect on the progression of the cancer after taking tamoxifen. Arimidex is used both in women who have had surgery as well as women with spreading cancer (metastatic). Breast cancer usually carries symptoms such as a lump in the breast, thickening of breast tissue, changes in shape or size of one or both breasts, blood stained discharge from the nipple, nipple rashes and swelling.

Arimidex Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Arimidex including hot flushes, back pain, depression, changes in mood, feeling weak, sore throat, nausea, pain in the joints and stuff joints. More serious side effects may include feeling numb particularly on one side of the body, body weakness, sudden severe headache, swollen glands, swelling of the hands and/or feet, confusion, changes in vision or blurred vision and bone fractures. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Arimidex Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Arimidex to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Arimidex comes in tablet form. You should swallow Arimidex whole with a glass of water. It is usually prescribed for one daily dose. Do not crush or break the tablets. Do not take larger doses or take Arimidex for longer than prescribed. Arimidex should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

Arimidex Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Arimidex, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including heart disease or any heart condition, circulation problems, a history of stroke or blood clots, liver or kidney disease or incomplete menopause. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Arimidex, including tamoxafin or other estrogen based medications. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Arimidexmay cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
