ROSUVASTATIN (roe-SUE-vuh-stah-tin) is the chemical name
for Crestor.
Four strengths are available for ‘Crestor’
Tablets- 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg.
Crestor Common Uses
Crestor is used with a proper diet to help lower cholesterol
and fat (triglyceride) levels in your blood; this medicine
is HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (also known as a "statin").
It can also be used in other circumstances for treatment,
as if determined by your doctor.
Before Using Crestor
There are chances that any other medicines or medical
conditions may interact with this medicine therefore all
prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are
taking should be known by your doctor or pharmacist. If
you are also taking gemfibrozil then do not take Crestor.
Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor or pharmacist
that currently you are taking gemfibrozil. If you are
taking fibrates (such as clofibrate or fenofibrate), high
doses of niacin (1 gram or more per day), cyclosporine,
"blood thinners" such as warfarin, or antacids
than additional observation should be required of your
dose or condition. Without consulting doctor do not start
or stop taking the medicine. If you have any other medical
conditions including muscle problems, muscle problems
when you have taken other "statin" or "fibrate"
medicines, family history of muscle problems, heart problems,
kidney problems, low thyroid problems, alcohol use, allergies
(especially to other "statins"), pregnancy,
or breast-feeding than immediately inform your doctor.
If you have liver disease or abnormal liver function test
results, it is recommended not to use Crestor. While taking
this medicine, you may have increased risk of having side
effects which include low blood pressure; severe infection;
uncontrolled seizures; or serious metabolic, endocrine,
or electrolyte problems; these may cause kidney problems.
If you develop one of these conditions contact your doctor
as soon as possible. If you have any further queries regarding
