Mesalamine is generally used to treat diseases like ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and proctosigmoiditis. Mesalamine can also be used to prevent the symptoms of ulcerative colitis from occurring again.

In case any type of kidney disease please tell your doctor, as you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during your therapy with mesalamine. Mesalamine is in the FDA pregnancy category B which means the usage of the drug will not harm an unborn baby. Though it is not advisable take mesalamine without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Mesalamine passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing baby.
