What should you watch for while taking Ambien?

It is recommended to visit to your doctor or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Ambien should be taken for a few days and not for longer time then 1 or 2 weeks. It is recommended that you should keep a regular sleep schedule and go to the bed at same time everyday. Do not take the drinks which contain caffeine in the evening hours because this can cause trouble with falling asleep. If you still have difficulty in sleeping, consult with your doctor.

If you are taking Ambien from ma number of weeks and suddenly stop taking it you may get unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor has to change your regular dosing schedule and reduce it day-by-day so that it may not affect you. It is recommended not to stop taking dose on your own. Always follow the advice given by your doctor.

You may notice some trouble with falling asleep, after you stop taking your Ambien prescription. This is known sometimes as "rebound insomnia". After 1 or 2 nights, this problem goes away on its own so do not get discouraged.

Until you know how Ambien affects you, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness. If you are an older patient then do not stand or sit up quickly. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Do not take alcohol while taking Ambien. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
Inform and consult with your doctor that you are taking Ambien, if you are going to have surgery.

Ambien is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep); this medicine is a sedative-hypnotic.
